Quick and Easy Caramel Apple Dip

Caramel alone is the perfect accompaniment to apples, however, why not kick it up a notch and add cream cheese?  After all, as my husband likes to say, cream cheese makes everything better.

With only 2 required ingredients, this is a simple dip to whip together for guests or just an afternoon snack.  Optionally, you can add graham cracker crumbs to the top, or, to lighten up the dip {not caloric} fold in whipped cream.  It's delicious any way you choose to serve it.

Quick & Easy Caramel Apple Dip

1 - 8 oz. package cream cheese, softened
1 - 16 oz. package caramel sauce {you can use Marzetti's - found in the produce section of the grocery store, caramel ice cream topping, or homemade}
1 cup whipped cream or cool whip, optional
pinch salt, optional
Graham Cracker crumbs, optional

In a medium bowl with an electric mixer, beat the cream cheese until softened.  Add the caramel sauce, reserving a few Tablespoons to top the dip with.  Add a pinch of salt, if desired for a salted caramel dip.  Beat until well blended.

This can be served as is or, you can fold in 1 cup whipped cream with a rubber spatula, and/or you can top the dip with sprinkles of graham cracker crumbs for a caramel apple pie effect.

Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

What timing....I was as the bulk store today reading the long list of ingredients in packaged caramels and thought to myself, there has got to be a better and less, say toxic, for lack of a better word, way to make caramel apples. And then I came home to this. Ha! : )
